Iranian Embassy Rejects Speculation Linking Tehran to Fairford Incident
WANA (Sep 28) – The Iranian Embassy in London has firmly rejected recent speculation linking Iran to the arrest of five suspects near the Royal Air Force Fairford base in England, condemning what it described as unfounded allegations.
In a statement issued on Monday, the embassy said that some British individuals and media outlets had sought to associate Iran with the arrest of five suspects near the Fairford airbase through “baseless and biased” speculation.
The statement said that such speculation, particularly following US and Israeli actions against Iran, was aimed at fueling what it described as “anti-Iran propaganda” in Britain.
The Iranian Embassy also said the Islamic Republic reserved the right to take appropriate and necessary legal action to protect the rights and interests of the country and the Iranian people against misleading and damaging media narratives.
The statement came after British police reported the discovery of explosives near the Royal Air Force Fairford base in Gloucestershire and the arrest of five men in connection with a suspected bombing plot. Parts of the area surrounding the base were evacuated, while specialist military teams were deployed to examine several vehicles at the scene.
Britain’s Counter Terrorism Policing said all five suspects were men aged between 20 and 25 from London. They were arrested on suspicion of offenses involving explosives and preparing to carry out a terrorist act.
British media reported on Sunday that police were examining a possible link between the case and Iran. However, the reports did not provide evidence establishing such a connection, and the origin of the suspected operation remains unclear.
Fairford is a military facility used by the US Air Force in Britain and has previously been used to support US air operations.
