Iranian Envoy Urges SCO Action Against “State Terrorism” Following Recent Attacks
WANA (Apr 24) – The Iranian Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, has strongly condemned recent military strikes by the United States and the Israeli regime, calling on the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to issue a decisive response to what he described as state terrorism directed at the Islamic Republic.
Ambassador Jalali delivered these remarks while representing Iran at a high-level consultative meeting of SCO deputy foreign ministers focused on “International Activities and Regional Security” in Moscow on Friday, April 24, 2026.
Diplomacy Under Fire
Addressing the assembly, Jalali highlighted a pattern of broken promises by the United States. He noted that while Tehran had engaged in good-faith efforts to reach an agreement aimed at regional stability, those efforts were met with “betrayal of diplomacy” and subsequent military aggression.
The Ambassador also characterized recent talks in Islamabad as fruitless, emphasizing that the continuation of any dialogue is strictly contingent upon a fundamental shift in the opposing side’s approach and an acknowledgment of “realities on the ground.”
A Call for Collective Security
Warning that international law is being systematically undermined, Jalali urged the SCO to take a firm stand against actions targeting member states.
He emphasized the necessity of a decisive condemnation of actions by the members of this organization, including military aggression against member countries, actions against civilians and the destruction of vital energy infrastructure, threats to assassinate government officials and leaders, attempts at secessionism, and any type of terrorist act.
The Iranian ambassador to Russia also condemned the recent attacks by the United States and the Israeli regime and proposed that the principle of “indivisible security” be transformed into an executive and operational mechanism within the Shanghai Organization.
This meeting was held with three specific agendas: reviewing emerging threats against security and stability with a focus on the latest situation surrounding the Islamic Republic of Iran; assessing the organization’s international contacts and reviewing next steps for their promotion; and reviewing the implementation process of proposals to improve the activities of the Shanghai Organization.
