Iranian Films Shine at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival
WANA (Oct 27) – The 29th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival has unveiled its official lineup, featuring several films by Iranian filmmakers. The festival, scheduled to take place in Estonia from November 7 to 23, will host the world premiere of “Dual” directed by Abbas Nezam Doost in its main competition section.
Another Iranian entry, “Oh, What Happy Days” directed by Homayoun Ghanizadeh — a joint production between Iran, France, the United States, and Canada — will compete in the Critics’ Choice section.
According to reports and the festival’s latest announcement, “The Outcry” by Soheil Beiraghi has been selected for the Youth section, while “Almond Eyes” by Ebrahim Amini will appear in the Anime category. “It’s Winter,” directed by Sajad Imani, a co-production of Iran, France, and Canada, will compete in the Documentary section.
In the Short Animation Competition, three titles are representing Iranian talents: “Like a Deer, Like a Friend” by Malek Eghbali, “With Cassette Tapes and Toasts in the Car” by Kiana Naghshineh (a France-Germany co-production), and “Ramon Talks to Ghosts” by Shervin Kermani (a Canada-Spain co-production).
Additionally, “A Perfect Maryam” directed by Solmaz Etemadzadeh and Ara Torossian (Iran–U.S. co-production) will screen in the Short Fiction Competition, and “The Pear Tree” by Shadab Shayegan, a Germany-based Iranian filmmaker, will appear in the New Talents Short Film Competition.
This year, acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Ali Asgari has also been selected as one of the jury members of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.
