WANA (Jul 29) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, held a telephone conversation to discuss the latest regional and international developments.

 

During the exchange, the two officials focused on ongoing developments surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. Foreign Minister Araghchi detailed Iran’s positions and considerations regarding the current situation in the region, including the status of active consultations with the Sultanate of Oman.

 

Addressing bilateral issues with Europe, the Iranian foreign minister rejected a recent statement by the European Union regarding offending French diplomatic personnel in Tehran. Araghchi stated that the EU’s support for the misconduct of French embassy staff in Tehran contradicts the provisions of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

 

Foreign Minister Araghchi also referenced his recent telephone conversation with the Ukrainian foreign minister, who had claimed that the attack on an Iranian vessel was unintentional.

 

Araghchi emphasized that, given the Ukrainian president’s explicit acceptance of responsibility for the assault on the Iranian commercial ship, the claim of the attack being unintentional is unacceptable.

 

He asserted that the Ukrainian regime must explicitly accept responsibility for this illegal and criminal action, which resulted in the death and injury of Iranian citizens and the destruction of the commercial vessel.
