Iranian FM Araghchi Meets Egyptian FM
WANA (Jun 02) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who arrived in Cairo last night for high-level talks, today, after meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, met his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, as part of his ongoing diplomatic engagements in the Egyptian capital.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations as well as current regional and international developments.
Araghchi described recent contacts and exchanges between officials from Iran and Egypt as constructive and said the trajectory of bilateral ties—in political, economic, and tourism fields—was moving forward positively.
Referring to the sensitive developments in recent months in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, Araghchi stressed that political consultations between Iran and Egypt, as two key regional players, are essential for resolving regional crises and preventing further escalation of tensions.
For his part, Egypt’s Foreign Minister welcomed the positive momentum in bilateral ties and reaffirmed Cairo’s commitment to continuing consultations with Tehran on current regional developments.
Both sides also emphasized the importance of joint efforts and cooperation between Iran and Egypt to advance the initiative for a Middle East free of nuclear weapons.
Araghchi is also scheduled to travel to Beirut following his visit to Cairo.
This marks Araghchi’s second bilateral trip to Egypt and his third visit to the country since becoming foreign minister. In his previous trip in October last year, Araghchi met with Egyptian officials to discuss the ongoing situation in Gaza and Israeli attacks on Lebanon as part of his broader regional diplomatic tour.
He also traveled to Egypt in late December to attend the D-8 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and later accompanied Iran’s President to the D-8 Summit.
Commenting on Araghchi’s trip during his weekly press briefing, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said that the issue of occupied Palestine is a shared concern for both Iran and Egypt, as well as within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. He added that efforts to restore and improve bilateral ties—initiated about two years ago—have been steadily progressing.
