WANA (Jul 14) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei announced on Monday that Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi is scheduled to meet his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, on the sidelines of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in China.

 

Baghaei stated that the Iranian Foreign Minister and his Russian counterpart will meet and hold talks focusing on Iran’s nuclear program and recent developments in West Asia.

 

He noted that the meeting is set to take place during Araghchi’s visit to China, where the SCO foreign ministers’ summit will be held on Tuesday, July 15. Lavrov is also expected to attend the gathering.

 

“The continuation of consultations on bilateral relations and the latest regional developments, including the Iranian nuclear issue, is on the agenda of this meeting,” Baghaei added.

 

Earlier today, Foreign Minister Araghchi departed Tehran for China, leading a high-level delegation.

 

Baghaei had previously confirmed that Araghchi is attending the SCO summit at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and will also hold talks with Wang and several other participating foreign ministers during the event.
