WANA (Jul 09) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned what it described as the U.S. military’s “aggressive attacks” carried out early Thursday, July 9, against several locations in the country’s southern coastal provinces, as well as two bridges on the railway route to the holy city of Mashhad in eastern Iran.

The ministry said the strikes “undoubtedly constitute a blatant war crime” and reaffirmed Iran’s determination to defend its territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national security.

According to the statement, the U.S. attacks over the past 48 hours, which Washington has linked to alleged incidents involving several non-compliant vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, constitute a clear violation of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter.

The ministry also said the strikes violate Clauses 1 and 5 of the memorandum of understanding on ending the war and serve as further evidence of what it described as the United States’ continued failure to uphold the agreement.

The ministry stated that, as millions of Iranians participated in the historic farewell ceremony for the late leader of the Islamic Revolution, demonstrating what it called their resolve to defend Iran’s sovereignty, national authority, and territorial integrity, the U.S. leadership responded with “insults, disinformation, and military aggression,” including targeting the railway route leading to Mashhad.

The Foreign Ministry also condemned what it described as offensive remarks made by the U.S. president and other American officials against the Iranian nation.

It said their explicit acknowledgment that they would not adhere to the June 18 memorandum ending the war was further proof of what it called the U.S. government’s “breach of commitments, hostility, warmongering, and malign conduct.”

The ministry extended congratulations and condolences over the deaths of Iranian citizens, including members of the country’s naval forces in the south, who it said were killed in U.S. strikes over the past 48 hours.

It reaffirmed the Islamic Republic’s determination to defend Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity and to punish those responsible for the attacks, adding that Iran “will under no circumstances allow the U.S. leadership’s breach of commitments, bullying, and misconduct to affect the country’s national rights and interests.”
