WANA (Aug 15) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has sharply criticized U.S. foreign policy toward Iran and the broader region, describing it as deeply reliant on deception and false narratives.

 

In a post published on the social media platform X, Baghaei asserted that Washington’s diplomatic stance is defined by extreme self-deception, quoting a famous passage from Fyodor Dostoevsky’s classic novel The Brothers Karamazov to highlight his point:

 

“The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to such a pass that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others.”

 

Baghaei stated that the literary excerpt accurately reflects the current state of the U.S. governance system and its foreign policy approach regarding Iran and the Middle East, arguing that its heavy reliance on disinformation has blinded American policymakers to regional realities.
