WANA (Jun 18) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi continued his intensive round of diplomatic consultations on Thursday with a telephone call to French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, focusing on the newly signed Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and its regional implications.

 

During the conversation, Araghchi highlighted the provisions of the Islamabad agreement and underscored the responsibility of the United States to play an effective role in ending the war and halting hostilities across all fronts, including Lebanon.

 

The Iranian top diplomat also noted that the Islamabad accord opens new avenues for expanding bilateral relations between Tehran and Paris, particularly in the economic and commercial sectors.

 

He emphasized the urgent need for decisive and comprehensive support from the international community and global institutions, including the United Nations Security Council, to uphold the agreement and back the peace processes resulting from it.

 

For his part, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot declared Paris’s full support for the ongoing diplomatic process and the newly reached memorandum of understanding. Barrot stressed the critical importance of capitalizing on this opportunity to strengthen peace, stability, and lasting security throughout the region.

 

Both foreign ministers further reaffirmed the vital importance of safe navigation and transit through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law, describing the preservation of security and stability in the strategic waterway as essential for global peace and international trade.
