WANA (Oct 10) – Atieh Sadat Hosseini, a young member of Iran’s women’s para powerlifting national team, has become the world champion.

On the second day of the 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships in the youth category, Hosseini competed in the 61 kg class. The young Iranian athlete successfully lifted 85 kg and 90 kg in her first and second attempts.

Although she was unable to lift 94 kg on her third attempt, Hosseini secured the gold medal and claimed the world championship title — making history as the first Iranian woman ever to win a gold medal in para powerlifting.

The youth competitions are being held on October 8 and 9 (17th and 18th of Mehr) for the first time over two consecutive days, with the participation of 124 athletes from 28 National Paralympic Committees.
