Iranian Ice Climber Wins World Cup Gold
WANA (Jan 13) – An Iranian ice climber claimed the championship title at the Ice Climbing World Cup in South Korea.
During the first round of the 2026 Ice Climbing World Cup season, held in Cheongsong, South Korea, Mohammadreza Safdarian won the gold medal in the men’s speed event. Another Iranian athlete, Mohsen Beheshti, secured the bronze medal, while a climber from Mongolia finished in second place.
In the women’s speed competition, Iran’s Mahin Khalili placed fifth.
The event featured more than 100 ice climbers from 18 countries, competing in both speed and lead disciplines. Safdarian, who was the only Iranian competitor in the lead category, also finished eighth in that event.
The second round of the 2026 Ice Climbing World Cup season is scheduled to take place in the last week of January in Saas-Fee, Switzerland.
