Iranian Judiciary: No Doctors Arrested for Treating Victims of January Terrorist Incidents
WANA (Feb 08) – Iran’s Judiciary Media Center has issued an official statement rejecting claims that doctors were arrested for providing medical care to those injured during the terrorist incidents that took place in January.
According to the statement released on Saturday evening, the judiciary responded to what it described as the spread of unfounded rumors and allegations in hostile media outlets, clarifying that no members of the medical community were detained for fulfilling their professional and humanitarian duties during the events of January 8 and 9.
The statement emphasized that healthcare workers, as in previous critical situations, continued to serve the public courageously and selflessly during the January incidents and the ensuing urban unrest. It added that no arrests were carried out on the basis of providing medical services.
The Judiciary Media Center noted that, based on continuous and thorough monitoring, only a very limited number of individuals from the medical community were detained, and those detentions were not related to their medical work. Rather, they were due to participation in riots and direct involvement in unlawful activities.
The statement concluded by stressing that supporting healthcare professionals and clearly distinguishing between legitimate medical duties and actions outside the legal framework remain a consistent priority for Iran’s judiciary.
The head of Iran’s Medical Council has stated that the arrest of 33 members of the country’s medical community in recent months was unrelated to their clinical or professional activities, emphasizing that the individuals were detained over “general criminal offenses.” According to his remarks, 10 of those arrested have since been released, while the remaining individuals are still undergoing legal and judicial procedures
