WANA (Jan 25) – Members of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly said in a statement that the foreign designers and supporters of unrest, having failed to exert influence inside the country, have turned to international pressure tools, including political resolutions and intensified sanctions.

In a statement responding to the European Parliament’s anti-Iran resolution, Iranian lawmakers stressed that the European Parliament and interventionist European governments bear direct legal and political responsibility for supporting, facilitating, and laying the groundwork for terrorist actions against the Iranian nation, and cannot evade accountability before the Iranian people and global public opinion.

The full text of the statement reads as follows:

“We, the representatives of the aware, insightful, and steadfast people of Iran in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, consider the recent resolution of the European Parliament a clear example of interference in the internal affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran and strongly condemn it.

We emphasise to European officials that the continuation of this hostile and irresponsible approach will not undermine the firm resolve of the Iranian nation; rather, it will further intensify their political and moral disgrace in the eyes of global public opinion.

At a time when the European Parliament has failed to address the internal problems of the European Union, it has now resorted to shifting blame and interfering in the internal affairs of other countries to cover up this historic failure and evade accountability to European nations.

Within this framework, by interfering in our country’s internal affairs and claiming to defend human rights in Iran through issuing resolutions, it has effectively positioned itself as a supporter of terrorism and terrorist groups.

This is while solid documents and undeniable evidence show that the intelligence services of some foreign countries have had direct and organized links with the leaders of terrorist groups, and that the killing of innocent people on the evening of 8 January took place under their guidance and support.

Following the magnificent, widespread, and meaningful participation of the Iranian people in the historic 12 January march, which clearly demonstrated unity, national cohesion, and public hatred of riots, unrest, and insecurity, the enemy’s project to disrupt order and security in the country was completely defeated.

After this failure, the foreign designers and supporters of the unrest adopted a new path, and, unable to influence developments inside the country, turned to international pressure tools, issuing political resolutions and intensifying sanctions—a path that has further exposed their hostile nature and intentions.

Accordingly, the European Parliament and interventionist European governments bear direct legal and political responsibility for supporting, facilitating, and enabling terrorist actions against the Iranian nation, and cannot shirk accountability before the Iranian people and global public opinion.

The interventionist resolution of the European Parliament was issued while this same body and European governments, over the past two years, have maintained a shameful and telling silence in the face of the unprecedented crimes of the Zionist regime, including mass displacement, organised genocide, and the killing of more than 80,000 defenceless people in Gaza, thereby effectively standing alongside a terrorist regime.

Now, the same actors, applying an openly double standard, have issued a resolution and unjustly accused the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps—an institution that has played the most prominent role in combating terrorism in the region.”
