WANA (Aug 31) – Several Arab sources and reports circulating on social media have reported loud explosions and the activation of warning sirens in southern and eastern Jordan, amid claims that Iranian missiles were launched toward U.S. military positions in the country.

 

The developments came hours after the United States carried out an attack on Iran’s Lark Island and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that the attack would be met with a response. Initial reports identified the Aqaba area in southern Jordan and Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in the east of the country as among the locations reportedly targeted. Both sites host U.S. military personnel and equipment.

 

Meanwhile, the OSINT Defender account on X claimed that Muwaffaq Salti Air Base was the main target of the reported Iranian missile attack and shared footage it said showed Patriot air-defense systems intercepting missiles over Jordan. The claim has not been independently verified.

 

At the same time, flight-tracking data reportedly showed several U.S. aerial refueling aircraft moving away from military bases in Gulf countries. Reports also said that a U.S. tanker aircraft had departed Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base, amid heightened concerns over a possible Iranian response to the attack on Lark Island.

 

Separately, an Iranian state television reporter said the attack on Lark Island had taken place in two closely spaced waves. The reporter also said explosions heard in the Sirik area were related to Iranian air-defense activity in response to the attack.

 

The precise details of the reported strikes on U.S. positions in Jordan, including possible casualties and damage and whether the missiles reached their intended targets or were intercepted, have not yet been officially confirmed.
