Iranian MP Urges Suspension of IAEA Cooperation, Says Israel Failed in Strategic Goals
WANA (Jun 24) – Alaeddin Boroujerdi, a senior member of Iran’s Parliament and the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, called for a complete suspension of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), citing recent security concerns and political bias. In a televised interview, Boroujerdi stated that IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi should not be allowed to enter Iran, accusing him of acting as a “dishonest and biased operative.”
“This suspension does not mean withdrawing from the NPT,” Boroujerdi clarified. “But as long as our peaceful nuclear sites are not secure from threats, all cooperation with the Agency must be halted.”
Boroujerdi’s remarks come in the wake of a military confrontation between Iran and Israel, which he described as a miscalculated attack orchestrated by Israel with U.S. coordination. He claimed the assault aimed to eliminate senior Iranian military figures but failed due to Iran’s rapid response and leadership under the Supreme Commander.
“Within hours, new commanders were appointed, and the country continued its course with full stability,” he said. “The enemy failed in their first objective.”
Second and Third Objectives Also Defeated
Boroujerdi alleged that the second goal of the attack was to create public panic and political division in Iran. Instead, he said, public sentiment unified against Israel, with spontaneous rallies held across the country.
“Hatred for the Zionist regime is deeply rooted in our society, even before the Revolution. This emotional uprising was a natural response to the aggression.”
He also claimed that attempts to instill fear failed, citing the mass turnout in Friday demonstrations as evidence of national resilience.
“This nation stood tall and challenged the Zionist regime with pride,” he declared.
Military Response and “Operation True Promise 3”
Boroujerdi referred to Iran’s retaliatory operation “True Promise 3” as a demonstration of the country’s full military capabilities, claiming that even Western technology, including that of the U.S. and France, was ineffective against Iran’s precision missile strikes.
“Only 20% of our capabilities were shown in earlier operations. This time, we made history,” he asserted.
He also referenced the failed attempt to disrupt Iran’s state media, saying that IRIB staff continued broadcasts without interruption despite being targeted.
No Crisis in Supplies or Panic
Refuting foreign narratives of shortages or economic collapse, Boroujerdi said normalcy returned quickly after brief gasoline lines on the first day. He credited Iranian intelligence for quickly neutralizing infiltrators allegedly using the internet to spread panic.
International Diplomacy and Military Readiness
Boroujerdi said Israel informed the U.S. by the tenth day of the conflict that it could not continue without American assistance — which he called the “first sign of their defeat.” He also warned regional countries that any support for U.S. attacks would result in Iranian retaliation.
“We acted with balance, even treating Qatar with respect despite its involvement. This is our legal right to self-defense.”
He confirmed that Iran accepted a ceasefire proposal not as a peace deal but as a gesture to demonstrate that Tehran is not warmongering.
“There is no peace. We are still technically at war,” he said, noting that military forces remain fully alert.
On U.S. Negotiations and the IAEA
Describing U.S. President Trump as “astoundingly inept,” Boroujerdi criticized Washington’s approach to diplomacy, saying that while Iran entered talks in good faith to end sanctions, the U.S. responded with both aggression and disregard for international norms.
He sharply criticized IAEA chief Rafael Grossi, labeling him “a dishonorable and hired agent,” and claimed the Agency’s latest reports to the Board of Governors were “false” and gave Israel a pretext for attack.
“There is no logic left in continuing normal cooperation with the IAEA,” he said. “Until our national security is guaranteed, there will be no cooperation.”
Boroujerdi emphasized that Iran will now concentrate its nuclear activities in secure underground sites like Fordow and under passive defense protocols.
“They have proven to be untrustworthy. From now on, we will act accordingly.”
Final Remarks: National Pride and Sovereignty
In closing, Boroujerdi praised the Iranian people for over four decades of steadfastness.
“Not an inch of our soil has been lost. Unlike the former regime that gave away the 14th province, the Islamic Republic stands with dignity and strength.”
