WANA (Jun 20) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced on Saturday, June 20, that an Iranian delegation is traveling to Switzerland to follow up on and demand the implementation of commitments made by the opposing party. He emphasized that commitments are reciprocal, warning that Iran will take necessary countermeasures if the other side fails to fulfill its obligations.

 

Esmaeil Baghaei spoke to the reporters at Mehrabad Airport on Saturday before his departure.

 

A Trip to Demand Compliance

Addressing the objectives of the visit, Baghaei explained that the trip had originally been scheduled for Friday to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU). However, because the MoU was signed digitally, the urgency for that specific meeting had subsided.

 

He noted that the current trip is focused on ensuring the other side adheres to its obligations, stating that the true test of any agreement comes during its implementation stage. Given past experiences with the other party’s breaches of faith, he stressed the need to demand compliance firmly and seriously during the execution phase.

 

Clause 13 of the Memorandum

The diplomatic spokesperson pointed out that Clause 13 of the memorandum is explicitly clear. He stated that negotiations for a final agreement would only begin once the implementation of commitments under Clauses 1, 4, 5, 10, and 11 had commenced and continued.

 

Regrettably, Baghaei observed that this status has not yet been achieved. Consequently, the upcoming talks in Switzerland are intended to demand clarity on how the other side plans to execute its responsibilities.

 

Clear Violation of the Ceasefire Agreement

Baghaei described the obligations as highly straightforward, noting that Clause 1 of the MoU represents the most critical component of the mutual commitments, which entails ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon.

 

He asserted that Iran has remained committed to its obligations, whereas the opposing side was required to compel its allies—specifically the Israeli regime—to halt hostilities in Lebanon. He remarked that they have failed to fulfill this duty, which constitutes a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement.

 

While acknowledging that commitments regarding the lifting of the naval blockade and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz have been met, Baghaei reminded that the MoU is a comprehensive package. He warned that if any single component of these agreements is left unfulfilled, the integrity of the entire memorandum is compromised.

 

He urged the other party to take necessary measures immediately, particularly since Clause 1 is the core of the agreement, failing which the entire accord would face disruption.

 

Commitment Conditioned on Reciprocity

The senior Iranian diplomat concluded by stating that Iran did not sign the agreement for it to go unimplemented. He recalled that the accord was reached after several weeks of highly intensive negotiations, driven by the efforts of mediators, Iran’s good faith, and most importantly, the backing of national power and solidarity.

 

Baghaei reiterated that Iran will spare no effort to see the agreement through, but maintained that commitments remain strictly reciprocal.

 

He concluded with a firm warning that if the other side continues to evade its responsibilities, Iran will undoubtedly adopt necessary countermeasures.

 

The delegation includes Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Araghchi, Bagheri, Deputy for International Affairs at the Secretariat of the Supreme National Security Council, Hemmati, Governor of the Central Bank, Hamid Board, Deputy Oil Minister and head of the National Iranian Oil Company, Gharibabadi and Baghaei, Deputy Foreign Ministers, and others.

 

Pakistan Announces US-Iran Technical Talks to Resume in Switzerland Tomorrow

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has also announced that a new round of technical talks between representatives from Iran and the United States will take place tomorrow.

 

According to an official statement issued by Islamabad, the diplomatic meeting is scheduled to be held in the Swiss resort town of Bürgenstock, with Switzerland serving as the host country.
