Iranian Officials Congratulates Greco-Roman Wrestling Triumph
WANA (Sep 21) – Following Iran’s national Greco-Roman wrestling team championship at the 2025 World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, marking the country’s second world title in the discipline, several Iranian officials congratulated the team.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian congratulated Iran’s national Greco-Roman wrestling team on winning the World Championships in Croatia, describing the achievement as a symbol of the vitality of the Iranian nation and the merit of its youth in reaching the heights of honor.
In his message, Pezeshkian wrote:

Once again, the brave and capable sons of our country, with their decisive and early victory at the World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships in Zagreb, added a golden page to the proud record of our nation’s sporting history. By showcasing their strength and talent, they delighted the great people of Iran and secured their rightful place on the world stage.
This valuable championship is a clear sign of the vitality of the Iranian nation and the worthiness of our courageous youth in conquering peaks of honor. I hope to see the continuation of such achievements across all sports disciplines.
While expressing my appreciation for the tireless efforts of the coaches, technical staff, and all members of the national Greco-Roman wrestling team, I sincerely congratulate this great success to the people of Iran, the sports community, and especially the champions and their families. I wish continued success for all of our athletes in various sports arenas.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi also congratulated the team in a message, praising the wrestlers’ dominant performance and their addition of another gold medal to Iran’s decorated wrestling history.
“The commanding victory of the national Greco-Roman wrestling team at the World Cup and the addition of another golden medal to this proud sporting record is a source of honor for the Iranian nation,” Araghchi said.
He described the achievement as clear evidence of the strength, unity, and perseverance of Iran’s young athletes and their dedicated coaching staff, who, through relentless effort, have made history in the world of wrestling.
The Foreign Minister extended his congratulations to the athletes, coaches, families, and sports-loving people of Iran, expressing hope that the path of success would continue with even greater motivation and strength.
Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei congratulated both the freestyle and Greco-Roman national teams on their victories at the world championships in Croatia. Writing on social media platform X, Baghaei said:
“Iran’s freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling champions have once again raised the name of Iran to the heights of glory. These victories are not merely medals; they echo the determination, courage, resilience, and indomitable spirit of a great nation.”
He paid tribute to the wrestlers as heroes who carried the message of Iran’s dignity and pride across the world.
With this triumph, Iran’s Greco-Roman wrestling team secured its second-ever world championship title after defeating strong international rivals.
