WANA (Jun 05) – Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni met with his Pakistani counterpart, Mohsin Naqvi, on Thursday evening to discuss bilateral ties, border security, and regional diplomacy on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Interior Ministers’ meeting.

 

During the bilateral session, Momeni expressed optimism for their respective tenures, stating his hope that crucial border issues and mutual matters between the two nations would yield positive results through closer cooperation.

 

Highlighting the current $3 billion trade volume between Iran and Pakistan, the Iranian interior minister emphasized that both nations must actively work to elevate this figure to a target of $10 billion.

 

Islamabad Optimistic on U.S.-Iran Mediation

Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi welcomed the engagement and expressed his full readiness to pursue shared objectives. Naqvi specifically noted Islamabad’s ongoing diplomatic efforts, stating he remains hopeful about the outcome of Pakistan-mediated talks aimed at de-escalating tensions between Iran and the United States.

 

Naqvi strongly endorsed expanding bilateral relations across all sectors, particularly focusing on the joint $10 billion economic trade target. During the meeting, he also conveyed the greetings of the Pakistani Prime Minister to Momeni and extended an official invitation for the Iranian minister to visit Pakistan.

 

Momeni arrived in Kyrgyzstan on Thursday, leading a high-level delegation to attend the SCO summit. He is accompanied by senior officials, including ministerial advisors Taghavi and Mousavi, Head of International Affairs Javaheri, Head of the Information Center Khajehnejad, and Mohammad Mehdiabadi, the Deputy Director-General for Eurasia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
