Iranian Para Powerlifter Rostami Becomes World Runner-Up
WANA (Oct 12) – Iranian para powerlifter Rouhollah Rostami claimed the silver medal in the 88 kg category at the World Para Powerlifting Championships held in Egypt on Sunday.
Rostami, a two-time Paralympic gold medalist and bronze medalist, faced tough competition from athletes representing China (two lifters), Italy, Russia, Egypt (two lifters), and Kazakhstan.
He successfully lifted 235 kilograms in his first attempt and 243 kilograms in his second. In his third attempt, Rostami managed to raise 245 kilograms, but the judges ruled the lift invalid with two red lights.
With a total of 478 kilograms, the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic champion and Paris 2024 gold medalist secured second place and the world vice-champion title in his weight class.
The gold medal went to Yan Pan Pan of China, who lifted 244 kilograms to top the 88 kg category.
The Iranian national para powerlifting team is coached by Hossein Tavakoli, the Sydney 2000 Olympic gold medalist.
