Iranian Powerlifter Named World’s Strongest Para Athlete
WANA (Oct 17) – Iranian heavyweight para powerlifter Ahmad Aminzadeh claimed the gold medal and the title of world’s strongest para powerlifter in the over 107 kg category at the World Para Powerlifting Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
The competition in the +107 kg class took place on Friday afternoon, featuring two Iranian representatives — Ahmad Aminzadeh and Mehdi Sayyadi.
Aminzadeh began his performance by successfully lifting 255 kilograms, followed by 260 kilograms on his second attempt. He made an effort to lift 270 kilograms in his final attempt but failed to complete it.
Despite that, his 260 kg lift was enough to secure the gold medal and first place. He also ranked 12th overall in the combined three attempts with a total of 515 kilograms.
Fellow Iranian lifter Mehdi Sayyadi managed to lift 237 kilograms in his first attempt but failed to complete lifts of 242 and 250 kilograms in subsequent tries, finishing sixth with a final record of 237 kilograms. He placed 20th overall in the combined total standings.
Competitors from Brazil and Georgia finished second and third, earning silver and bronze medals with lifts of 251 and 250 kilograms, respectively.
Aminzadeh previously won gold at the 2024 Paris Paralympics with a 263-kilogram lift, further cementing his reputation as one of the sport’s top champions.
