WANA (Jun 29) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that $6 billion of the country’s frozen assets held in Qatar will be released and transferred back to Iran.

He also said the government is working to secure the release of the remaining $6 billion, bringing the total amount of Iranian funds in Qatar to $12 billion.

Pezeshkian added that an agreement currently taking shape includes the lifting of U.S. sanctions on Iran’s oil and petrochemical sectors. He described the agreement as “a major achievement” for Iran and said the government is simultaneously pursuing reconstruction efforts and economic support programs for its citizens.

The president also reiterated that Iran is not seeking to develop nuclear weapons, stressing that the country’s nuclear program will remain limited to civilian needs and conducted within its declared policies. He said Iran assures the international community that its nuclear activities are not intended for military purposes.

Pezeshkian further claimed that the United States ultimately persuaded Israel to accept the recent agreement, although, according to him, Israel and some opposition groups to the Islamic Republic continue to oppose its implementation.
