Iranian President to Visit Armenia and China
WANA (Aug 07) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has announced that President Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to visit Armenia in two weeks.
The trip, aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation, comes in response to an invitation from Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who recently told his Iranian counterpart in a phone call: “We are eagerly awaiting your visit to Armenia to discuss ways to boost cooperation and bilateral engagement.”
In addition to the Armenia visit, Araghchi confirmed Iranian President Pezeshkian will travel to China in September to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit. Araghchi had previously hinted at this trip during his own visit to China in late April, amid ongoing indirect talks between Iran and the United States.
President Pezeshkian has recently intensified diplomatic outreach across the region. Earlier this year, he made a one-day official trip to Baku, Azerbaijan, on April 28, where he met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. More recently, on July 4, he visited Khankendi (Stepanakert) in the Republic of Azerbaijan to attend the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit.
Pezeshkian’s foreign policy moves align with recent remarks in which he emphasized: “Our foreign policy priority must first be strengthening relations with neighboring countries, followed by expanding ties with strategic partners like Russia and China.”
The Iranian president has already visited Iraq, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Egypt, and Pakistan since taking office. His most recent trip abroad was to Pakistan earlier this week, a visit Araghchi described as “very successful.”
