Iranian Public Opinion Toward the U.S. After the 12-Day War
WANA (Aug 27) – The Association of Social Sciences Alumni of the University of Tehran, citing surveys conducted during and after the recent war by reputable academic and research centers, has released seven key findings on Iranian society’s views toward the United States and European countries in light of the recent 12-day war.
The reputable academic and research centers include the Office of National Polling (affiliated with the Parliament Research Center), the Ara Polling Center (managed by the former ISPA team), the Iranian Students Polling Agency (ISPA), and the IRIB Research Center.
It is noteworthy that during the recent conflict, some Western-oriented media and social activists, influenced by European support for Israel’s aggression against Iran, acknowledged the necessity of distrust toward the West, with some even openly speaking of anti-Western sentiment and the discrediting of international organizations.
The most significant findings include a deepening of distrust, negative feelings, and anger toward the United States, increasingly negative evaluations of European countries, recognition of Western support for Israel, and the perception of U.S. deceit in negotiations.
The detailed survey results are as follows:
- 79% of respondents believe that the target of the U.S. and the Zionist regime in the recent war was not only Iran’s political system but also the Iranian people themselves.
- 73% of respondents expressed hatred and anger toward the U.S. President.
- 70% of respondents now hold a negative view of European countries after the recent 12-day war; among them, 57% said their view became more negative than before the war.
- 76% of respondents disagreed with the idea that, while Israel is untrustworthy, the United States could still be trusted.
- 66% believe that European countries (the UK, Germany, and France) supported Israel in the recent war.
- 65% of respondents said they have no trust at all in U.S. President Trump’s statements, while only 6.5% expressed trust in his words.
- 64% believe that U.S. negotiations with Iran (prior to the war) were merely a deception to pave the way for an attack on Iran.
