Iranian, Qatari Foreign Ministers Discuss Regional Developments
WANA (Feb 28) – Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, held a telephone conversation with Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, to discuss the latest regional developments.
During the call, Araghchi expressed appreciation for Qatar’s efforts, along with those of other regional countries, in safeguarding shared and collective interests across the region. He also briefed his Qatari counterpart on the latest developments in the ongoing nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States.
Both sides underscored the importance of continuing the path of diplomacy to preserve regional peace and stability.
Prior to this phone call, Araghchi had held separate phone conversations with the Egyptian and Iraqi foreign ministers.
Iran-US negotiations began Thursday morning in Geneva with the mediation of Oman’s Foreign Minister and lasted five hours across two sessions, morning and afternoon.
As in the second round of talks, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi was also present.
The Iranian negotiating team was headed by Seyed Abbas Araghchi, while the U.S. delegation was led by chief negotiator Steve Witkoff.
Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, said Thursday night that “good progress” had been achieved following the third round of nuclear negotiations held in Geneva, noting that the talks had entered into the core elements of a potential agreement, including both nuclear and sanctions-related issues.
