WANA (Sep 04) – The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has renewed its appeal to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), requesting urgent intervention to determine the status, location, and health conditions of several Iranian pilots reportedly detained in Qatar.

In an official letter addressed to ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric, IRCS President Dr. Pir-Hossein Kolivand cited incoming reports and evidence, pressing the international body to act immediately on humanitarian grounds. Kolivand emphasized the necessity of ensuring the detainees’ physical well-being and guaranteeing their protections under International Humanitarian Law (IHL).

The IRCS had previously raised the matter through the ICRC’s delegation in Tehran, calling for updates on ongoing investigations. Kolivand also expressed readiness to supply the ICRC with supplementary documentation to aid their inquiries.

ICRC Response

Responding to the appeal, Stephane Bonamy, Head of the ICRC Delegation in Iran, confirmed that Dr. Kolivand’s letter had been forwarded to President Spoljaric’s office.

Bonamy stated that the ICRC remains actively engaged with all relevant parties in accordance with its core principles of neutrality, independence, and impartiality. He noted that the organization continues to address the fate and whereabouts of missing persons through confidential bilateral dialogues grounded in applicable international legal frameworks.

The ICRC representative added that should any relevant information be obtained from Qatari authorities, it will be conveyed to appropriate Iranian bodies to inform the affected families.

The IRCS stated it will maintain its humanitarian efforts through the ICRC and other official channels until the situation is fully resolved.
