WANA (Jan 20) – Iranian technologists have successfully designed and produced a rapid detection kit for Aflatoxin M1 in milk, a technology that identifies the presence of the toxin in less than five minutes with an accuracy of 0.5 nanograms per millilitre.

Mohaddeseh Haji-Abdolvahab, CEO of this knowledge-based company, referring to the production and localization of the Aflatoxin M1 rapid detection kit in milk, said: “This technological product can detect the presence or absence of this toxin in milk in less than five minutes with an accuracy of 0.5 nanograms per milliliter; an accuracy that is in accordance with European and global standards. This kit has now entered the sales stage, and several large dairy companies have also approved it.”

Explaining the importance of controlling Aflatoxin in milk, she said: “When livestock feed is contaminated with Aflatoxin B1, this toxin is metabolized in the animal’s body and converted into Aflatoxin M1, which enters the milk and is toxic to the consumer. Therefore, the accurate identification of this toxin in milk plays a key role in the food industry and the promotion of the country’s health and food security.”

Haji-Abdolvahab, stating that this product has both qualitative and quantitative measurement capabilities, explained: “Users can also determine the exact amount of Aflatoxin by using a supplementary device. Previously, similar samples were fully imported from abroad; however, we succeeded in localizing this technology.”

Quoted by the Vice Presidency for Science, regarding the production capacity and export target of this product, she said: “All the design and packaging of the kits have been done based on export standards. Currently, some other products are being exported, and this product will also be on the export path after obtaining the final licenses.”

The CEO of this knowledge-based company noted regarding the competitive advantage of the product: “In addition to high quality, the price of these kits is between 15% to 20% lower than foreign samples, and since it is a domestic production, it is more easily available to customers.”
