Iranian Universities See Third Day of Student Gatherings
WANA (Feb 23) – Iranian students held mourning ceremonies today to commemorate those who lost their lives during the recent (December–January) unrest, expressing solidarity with their families.
The gatherings mark the continuation of a series of student-led assemblies that began two days ago at universities across the country and have now entered their third day.
At several major institutions, including the University of Tehran, Amirkabir University of Technology, Alzahra University, and Sharif University of Technology, students organized religious ceremonies, held congregational prayers, read official statements, and chanted slogans to declare their positions regarding the recent events.
While many participants focused on mourning and calls for the academic community to take a clear stance on foreign interference and violence, reports from several campuses indicated rising tensions.
According to local accounts, some students at various universities chanted radical slogans and engaged in controversial acts, including insulting images of individuals who lost their lives in the recent 12-day war.

At Sharif University of Technology, a number of students from both sides reportedly received text messages notifying them of temporary campus entry bans. In response, some gathered and moved toward the university’s main gate in protest.
The university president appeared among the demonstrators, calling for calm in order to ensure the continuation of in-person classes. Several students voiced their objections directly to him during the exchange.
At Amirkabir University of Technology, gatherings reportedly escalated into physical clashes. Despite the tensions, some students held congregational prayers near the university’s main entrance.
Incidents involving flag burnings were also reported at certain campuses, including Amirkabir and Alzahra universities. According to reports, some students set fire to the Iranian flag, while others responded by burning the United States flag. At Amirkabir University, the Iranian flag was also raised at the highest point of the campus.
