WANA (Oct 30) – Iranian weightlifter Nasim Ghasemi earned two silver medals in the women’s 77 kg category at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, competing in both the snatch and clean and jerk events.

 

On Thursday, the final day of the weightlifting competitions, Ghasemi took to the platform to compete against six athletes in her weight class.

 

In the snatch, she successfully lifted 89 kg, 92 kg, and 94 kg, securing the silver medal. Her previous best this year was 90 kg at the Iranian National Youth Championships. Kholdorova of Uzbekistan won gold with 95 kg, while Pratiwi from Indonesia took bronze with 90 kg.

 

In the clean and jerk, Ghasemi completed lifts of 111 kg and 114 kg, but failed to lift 118 kg on her third attempt, finishing again with silver. Her best previous record was 105 kg earlier this year. Kholdorova claimed another gold with 118 kg, and Pratiwi took bronze with 113 kg.

 

Mahsa Beheshti, representing Iran in the women’s +77kg weightlifting category, won the bronze medal in the snatch event with a lift of 105 kilograms. In the clean and jerk, she lifted 136 kilograms, finishing fourth and missing out on a medal.
