Iran’s Ambassador in The Hague: We Will Respond Decisively to Any Threat
WANA (Jul 08) – The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Netherlands, Hadi Farajvand, has strongly condemned recent attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, calling them blatant violations of international law.
In an exclusive interview addressing the latest developments in West Asia, Ambassador Farajvand reaffirmed Iran’s firm stance on regional stability, dialogue, and political solutions while warning that Tehran would respond decisively to any threats against its sovereignty or national security.
“Iran has always been and will continue to be a supporter of stability, dialogue, and political solutions in the region,” said Farajvand. “However, we will respond decisively, rationally, and within the framework of international law to any threat against our sovereignty and security.”
The ambassador emphasized that Iran’s recent defensive actions were a legitimate response under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which allows for the right of self-defense in the face of aggression.
“Iran reserves the right to defend its territorial integrity and national security in accordance with international law,” he added.
Farajvand also addressed concerns about Iran’s nuclear program, reiterating that it remains entirely peaceful. Citing numerous reports by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), he noted that there has been no deviation toward military objectives.
“Our nuclear program has always been peaceful. Claims by the Israeli regime and the U.S. regarding military intentions are baseless and lack any legal or international legitimacy,” he stated.
The ambassador underscored Iran’s principled opposition to weapons of mass destruction, referencing the Supreme Leader’s religious decree (fatwa) and the moral teachings of Islam.
“Based on Islamic principles, the Supreme Leader’s fatwa, and rational national interests, Iran categorically rejects the production and use of weapons of mass destruction,” he said. “Such actions are contrary to our ethical, humanitarian, and religious values.”
He went on to criticize recent Israeli strikes during ongoing diplomatic discussions, describing them as a betrayal of diplomacy and evidence of the U.S. government’s lack of genuine commitment to dialogue.
Farajvand also commented on the response—or lack thereof—by the Dutch government, pointing to the Netherlands’ role as host to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
“As a country known as the legal capital of the world, we expected the Netherlands to issue a strong and clear condemnation of this aggression and the blatant violation of international law,” the ambassador said.
