WANA (Jun 04) – The General Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces announced: The powerful and capable Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, under the wise and intelligent command of the Commander-in-Chief, are closely monitoring the movements and actions of the enemies of the Revolution and are fully prepared to confront any act of mischief or strategic mistake by them—at any time and at any level of threat.

In a statement issued on the occasion of Imam Ruhollah Khomeini’s 36th anniversary of his passing and in remembrance of the June 5, 1963, uprising, Iran’s General Staff of the Armed Forces honored the legacy of the Islamic Revolution’s founder and reiterated its loyalty to the principles laid out by him and his successor, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

The statement emphasized that the Islamic Revolution of Iran, guided by a descendant of Lady Fatimah (SA), emerged as a continuation of the Ashura movement and Imam Hussein’s (AS) teachings. It credited the steadfast faith and resolve of the Iranian people with the overthrow of the “shameful and dark monarchical regime” and the restoration of “dignity, freedom, and pride” to the nation.

“A Divine System That Challenged Global Powers”

According to the Armed Forces, Imam Khomeini’s unparalleled leadership and intellectual vision established a divine system grounded in religious democracy and Islamic values, which openly defied the bipolar world order of the Cold War era and exposed what it called the “hollow might of Western and Eastern arrogance.”

The statement described the June 5 uprising as the beginning of a comprehensive ideological movement—political, social, and spiritual—rooted in the Imam’s anti-arrogance and justice-seeking worldview. With the courage, sacrifice, and selflessness of the freedom-seeking and oppression-fighting Iranian nation, and through their deep emotional and spiritual connection with the divine ideals of the late Imam, the Islamic Revolution triumphed. It revived and elevated pure Muhammadan Islam and fulfilled the slogan: “Blood triumphs over the sword.”

Continued Resistance and Defiance

The Armed Forces reiterated that the brave and resilient people of Iran will continue on this revolutionary path under the leadership of Ayatollah Khamenei, overcoming “all hardships, pressures, and sanctions.” The statement asserted that, through steadfastness and resistance, Iran will once again make its enemies regret their miscalculations, as it has in the past.

It warned that the Islamic Republic will persist in its pursuit of progress and growing strength across various fields, standing firm in the face of “threats, conspiracies, provocations, and crimes” perpetrated by the global hegemonic system.

Military Preparedness and Strategic Vigilance

Concluding the statement, the General Staff declared that Iran’s armed forces—described as powerful, capable, courageous, and heroic—remain fully prepared under the wise leadership of the Commander-in-Chief, Ayatollah Khamenei.

“The Iranian Armed Forces, as the solid pillar of this noble and insightful nation, are closely monitoring all enemy movements,” the statement read. “They are ready to decisively confront any act of aggression or strategic miscalculation at any time and at any level of threat.”

Imam Khomeini’s Passing

Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, passed away on June 3, 1989, at the age of 86. Revered as the leader of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, Khomeini led a popular uprising that overthrew the Western-backed monarchy and established a new political system based on Islamic governance.

He was known for his strong anti-Western stance, particularly toward the United States, which he often referred to as the “Great Satan.” His political philosophy and leadership left a lasting imprint on Iran’s domestic and foreign policies.

Background of 1963 June 5

Iran’s 1963 June 5 Uprising was a pivotal moment in modern Iranian history and is widely regarded as the starting point of the Islamic Revolution.

On this day, the protests erupted in response to the arrest of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, a prominent cleric who had delivered a fiery speech the day before, criticizing the King of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, and his policies.

Khomeini’s arrest triggered mass demonstrations in cities like Qom, Tehran, Shiraz, and Mashhad. Protesters demanded his release and voiced broader opposition to the King’s rule.

The Pahlavi regime violently suppressed the uprising. Hundreds—possibly thousands—were killed, although the exact number is disputed.
