Iran’s Army Ready for International Peacekeeping
WANA (Jun 01) – Brigadier General Kioumars Heydari, Commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces, announced on Sunday the force’s readiness to actively participate in international missions focused on defending oppressed peoples, combating terrorism, and restoring security to crisis-hit regions.
Speaking at the first conference honoring the Ground Forces’ peacekeepers, Heydari emphasized the force’s commitment to sustainable peace, regional security, and adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter. He defined peace not merely as the absence of war, but as the creation of stability, justice, and prosperity for all nations.
He further stressed that sustainable peace must be grounded in justice and respect for national sovereignty, rejecting any notion of peace as surrender or passivity in the face of threats. Instead, peace requires active efforts to eliminate insecurity, confront extremism and terrorism, support oppressed nations, and strengthen legitimate institutions in troubled areas.

Grounded in religious teachings, constitutional principles, and Iran’s defensive policy, the Army Ground Forces view themselves as guardians of national security and supporters of regional peace and stability.
Heydari outlined the force’s full readiness to contribute to peacekeeping operations under legal and international frameworks, including deployment of combat troops, medical assistance, training, drone operations, and technical support to restore calm and stability to war-torn regions.
He also highlighted peacekeeping participation as an opportunity to exchange experiences, enhance operational capabilities, and present a humane and ethical image of Iran’s Armed Forces internationally. Heydari announced Iran’s intent to host a second international peacekeeping conference with representatives from foreign countries and armed forces, pending official approval.
Regarding training and deployment, Heydari said to the reporters that 40 officers have completed specialized peacekeeping courses in Switzerland, Italy, Turkey, and India, while 21 officers have served on peacekeeping missions in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Mali. The unit is equipped and trained according to UN protocols and is prepared to deploy as individual personnel or battalion-sized units upon UN request.
