Iran’s Atomic Energy Chief Arrives in Moscow
WANA (Sep 22) – Iran’s Vice President and head of the Atomic Energy Organization, Mohammad Eslami, arrived in Moscow on Monday to meet with Russian officials and deliver speeches at events marking Russia’s World Atomic Week. He was welcomed at Sheremetyevo International Airport by Iran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali.
Visit Agenda
At the start of his trip, Eslami told reporters that Iran would participate in the special exhibition during World Atomic Week in Moscow and deliver a keynote speech. He added that Iran and Russia would exchange and sign documents to further expand bilateral cooperation in nuclear energy at related side events.
Eslami highlighted Iran’s plan to generate 20,000 megawatts of electricity through the expansion of nuclear power plants, noting that agreements between the two governments already define Russia’s role in this development.
During the visit, he said, the delegation would tour partner factories and hold meetings with scientific and research institutions to strengthen educational and research collaborations.
A Milestone in Bilateral Relations
Referring to a January 2024 meeting between the Iranian and Russian presidents at the Kremlin, Eslami noted that President Putin emphasized energy as the flagship area of cooperation between the two countries, with nuclear power being the most prominent. “From this perspective, this visit marks a milestone in Iran-Russia relations,” he said.
He added that Russia is currently constructing Units 2 and 3 of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. Eslami stressed that the projects remain a priority for both governments and that the directives of the two presidents have accelerated progress and facilitated smoother negotiations, helping to advance cooperation in the sector.
