Iran’s Condolences over Afghanistan Earthquake and Offer of Assistance
WANA (Sep 01) – The President of Iran expressed condolences over the loss of lives following the earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, describing the Afghan people as a “friendly and brotherly nation.” He also announced the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to provide any form of cooperation, relief operations, and humanitarian aid to the affected areas.
In a separate message, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi extended sympathy to the Afghan people over the devastating earthquake, stressing Tehran’s full readiness to dispatch emergency and medical assistance.
In his statement, Araghchi wrote: “I express the deep sorrow and sympathy of the government and people of Iran over the powerful earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, which has claimed the lives of hundreds and left many more injured. In these difficult moments, Iran stands beside the people of Afghanistan and is prepared to send humanitarian aid and engage in regional cooperation to help alleviate the suffering of the victims.”

The 6.0-magnitude quake struck on Sunday night, August 31, 2025, hitting the provinces of Kunar, Nuristan, Nangarhar, and Laghman. The earthquake occurred at 11:47 p.m. local time near the Pakistani border and was followed by numerous aftershocks.
According to initial reports, at least 622 people have been confirmed dead and more than 1,500 injured. The disaster has been described as one of the strongest earthquakes in Afghanistan in recent years, with local authorities still assessing the damage and continuing relief efforts in the affected regions.
