WANA (Jun 24) – Ali Bahreini, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, denounced the recent U.S. military strikes on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities in Isfahan, Natanz, and Fordow, describing them as a flagrant act of aggression and a grave breach of the fundamental principles of international law.

Speaking at the United Nations Conference on Disarmament, Bahreini asserted that the United States — a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a depository state of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) — carried out what he called a “criminal act” in coordination with the “criminal Zionist regime of Israel,” using a “distorted and imbalanced report” from the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as justification. He emphasized that the attack not only targeted Iran but also undermined the integrity of the entire global non-proliferation regime.

The Iranian envoy warned that U.S. collaboration with a nuclear-armed regime that is not a party to the NPT would be a historical stain on America’s record, with far-reaching consequences for international peace and security.

“Iran has been fully committed to the NPT since 1970 and has always emphasized the peaceful use of nuclear energy,” Bahreini stated. “Yet, the result of this sincere commitment has been unjust sanctions and military assaults on safeguarded facilities.”

He called for immediate and decisive action by the United Nations, the Security Council, the UN Secretary-General, and the IAEA in response to what he termed a blatant violation of international law.

“Iran has demonstrated vigilance, firm resolve, and capability in defending its land, people, and rights,” Bahreini declared in his concluding remarks. “Iran will unwaveringly exercise its inherent right to self-defense in the face of any aggression and will never renounce its legitimate right to peaceful nuclear knowledge and energy.”

During the session, an overwhelming majority of Conference on Disarmament member states condemned the military aggression by Israel and the United States against Iran and reaffirmed the need for a peaceful resolution regarding Iran’s nuclear program.
