Iran’s FM Attends BRICS Summit in Brazil
WANA (Jul 06) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to participate in a summit of the BRICS group.
The top Iranian diplomat arrived in the city late on Saturday at the head of a delegation including Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei.
“We arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to participate in the 17th BRICS Summit,” Baqaei said on his X account.
He also stated that Araghchi, in addition to attending the summit, will hold meetings with senior officials participating in the event.
The theme of the summit, “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance,” should be promoted through comprehensive collaboration among BRICS member states, added Baqaei.
The 17th annual BRICS summit is scheduled to be held on July 6-7. BRICS is a group made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran.
The bloc serves as a political and diplomatic coordination forum for countries from the Global South and for coordination in the most diverse areas.
