Iran’s FM Calls for Emergency OIC Meeting to Address Gaza
WANA (Aug 07) – Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a letter addressed to Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as well as Hakan Fidan and Faisal bin Farhan, the Foreign Ministers of Turkey and Saudi Arabia, has called for the urgent convening of an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to examine the humanitarian disaster in Gaza and coordinate the provision of urgent aid, as well as to assess the legal and political dimensions of the Zionist regime’s intention for the permanent occupation of Gaza.
The text of the letter from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran is as follows:
“In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
His Excellency Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha
Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation
Your Excellency,
With utmost concern, and a strong sense of moral and political urgency, I am once again writing to you regarding the increasingly dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip — a situation that has now become one of the most critical crises facing the Islamic Ummah and the international community.
The situation in Gaza has surpassed the limits of human endurance. What is unfolding is not merely a humanitarian crisis — but the systematic annihilation of a besieged civilian population. The scale and intensity of the atrocities being committed demand immediate and coordinated action.
The latest statistics and reports from all credible humanitarian institutions and media sources indicate that the civilian population of Gaza is facing a situation that can only be described in one word: genocide.
Equally concerning is the growing body of evidence pointing to the occupying regime’s strategic and unlawful intent to reoccupy and fully annex Gaza. Statements made by senior officials of the Zionist regime, along with its military actions and political stances, demonstrate a deliberate plan to erase Gaza’s territorial and political identity through permanent control, demographic engineering, and the destruction of any prospect of Palestinian sovereignty.
Senior officials of the occupying regime have explicitly spoken of their intent to “eliminate Gaza as a political entity.” This is not merely a tactical shift — it represents a strategic blueprint for dismantling Palestinian statehood through permanent territorial occupation, forced population displacement, and demographic manipulation.
In view of these developments, and within the framework of the provisions of the Charter of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Organization’s prior practice in convening emergency meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers, I hereby formally request the urgent convening of an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers at the earliest possible time at the General Secretariat headquarters of the Organization in Jeddah.
The purpose of this meeting is to:
- Address the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza,
- Coordinate the provision of urgent aid,
- Examine the legal and political dimensions of the Zionist regime’s intention to permanently occupy Gaza,
- Adopt a unified stance and implement practical measures, including diplomatic, legal, and economic tools, to halt the aggression and ensure accountability, and
- Reaffirm the centrality of the Palestinian cause to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and defend the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, sovereignty, and return.
This meeting must mark the beginning of coordinated and actionable steps to end the aggression and restore justice.
I respectfully request that Your Excellency initiate the necessary consultations with the member states and make the operational arrangements for this meeting without delay, in accordance with procedural frameworks and the urgency of the matter.
Your Excellency,
Please accept the expression of my deepest respect and unwavering commitment to our shared principles.”
