WANA (Sep 20) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has dismissed reports by some Western media claiming that he held direct talks with Steve Witkoff, the U.S. President’s special envoy.

In an interview with a domestic news agency, Araghchi stated: “No direct contact or conversation has taken place between Iran and the United States.” He added, however, that messages between Tehran and Washington are exchanged when necessary, either directly or through intermediaries.

His remarks came after several Western outlets alleged that the Iranian foreign minister had directly spoken with Witkoff and proposed launching immediate negotiations aimed at reaching an interim deal, followed by talks on a final agreement.

Rejecting these claims, Araghchi stressed: “The report about my recent conversation with Witkoff is false, and no direct engagement has occurred between the two sides.”

The Western media allegations emerged amid renewed speculation over the future of Iran-U.S. negotiations, at a time when the mediating role of certain regional states has once again drawn attention.
