Iran’s FM Phone Call with UN Secretary-General on Israeli Attacks
WANA (Jun 13) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held a phone conversation with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Friday evening, as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts in response to Israel’s military aggression against Iran.
During the call, Araghchi detailed the scope of the Israeli attacks on multiple locations across Iran—including military sites, nuclear facilities, and residential areas—which led to the deaths and injuries of several military commanders, academics, and innocent women and children. He urged the United Nations to take immediate action in fulfilling its responsibility to maintain international peace and security.
Referring to formal communications already submitted to both the President of the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General, Araghchi emphasized the need for urgent UN action to confront Israel’s aggression and warmongering.
The Iranian foreign minister stressed that the Israeli attacks represent a blatant violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as a sovereign UN member state and constitute a clear act of aggression. He reiterated Iran’s right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and called on the Security Council and the Secretary-General to fulfill their responsibilities by strongly condemning the attacks and taking concrete and immediate measures to hold Israel accountable.
In response, Secretary-General Guterres expressed regret and condemnation of the Israeli strikes, particularly the targeting of Iranian nuclear facilities amid ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States. He pledged to work through UN mechanisms to prevent further escalation and to restore peace and stability in the region.
