WANA (May 28) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman has firmly denied a recent Reuters report suggesting the possibility of Iran suspending its uranium enrichment activities. “The continuation of enrichment in Iran is a non-negotiable principle,” Esmail Baghaei, the spokesperson, said on Wednesday evening, May 28, in response to journalists’ questions about the report. He categorically dismissed the claim made by Reuters.

Baghaei described the report as yet another example of fabricated narratives, similar to previous claims that have repeatedly been denied and proven false. He criticized Reuters for relying on anonymous Iranian sources whose credibility remains unclear.

According to the Reuters report, Iran may temporarily halt its enrichment activities if its frozen assets are released and its right to enrich uranium is formally recognized. Baghaei rejected this notion outright.

Iranian officials have consistently emphasized their commitment to continue enrichment inside Iran. Former Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has also repeatedly stated that enrichment will proceed regardless of whether an agreement is reached.

The notion of a so-called “interim agreement,” which Reuters claimed was under discussion, has been explicitly and repeatedly denied by Iranian diplomats. On Monday, May 26, Baghaei reiterated during his weekly press briefing that the idea of an interim deal has never been on Iran’s agenda. “There has been no discussion about an interim agreement, not in the Rome meeting or elsewhere,” he said, referring to recent indirect talks between Iran and the U.S.

Commenting on broader speculations about the potential scope of any future agreement, Baghaei added: “These are merely media speculations driven by various agendas and intentions. None of them are confirmable.”
