Iran’s Government Spokesperson: Uranium Enrichment Is Currently Not Possible
WANA (Nov 18) – Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani stated on Tuesday that, due to recent damage to parts of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and based on explanations provided by Abbas Araghchi, “Iran is currently unable to carry out uranium enrichment.” She noted that the issue is under review by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, and the Supreme National Security Council, and that a final decision will be made in line with national interests. The Iranian Parliament may also participate in the decision-making process if required.
Mohajerani also referred to the recent message sent by Iran’s president to the Saudi crown prince, explaining that the message conveyed Iran’s appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s cooperation during last year’s Hajj season, particularly during the return of Iranian pilgrims amid the onset of the war. Facilitating Hajj procedures and emphasizing the expansion of bilateral cooperation were among the key themes of the message.

Addressing questions about the president’s recent remarks on the potential “evacuation of Tehran” in case of a severe water crisis, the spokesperson clarified that the comments were “a responsible and cautionary warning” rather than a practical policy plan. She stressed that experts have repeatedly warned for years that the natural capacity of the Tehran plain is far below the city’s current population load.
Mohajerani concluded by reiterating that Iran’s official response to the European troika’s draft resolution on suspending enrichment will be announced after joint assessments by the relevant national bodies, adding that “given the current damage, enrichment is not possible at this time.”
