WANA (May 08) – Iran’s junior national weightlifting team has secured the world championship title, finishing at the top of the standings ahead of Egypt and Venezuela. Despite initial visa issuance challenges, the eight-member squad led by head coach Sohrab Moradi traveled to Ismailia, Egypt, and delivered a dominant performance.

 

Final Standings and Points

Iran claimed first place with a total of 520 points. The host nation, Egypt, followed in second place with 427 points, while Venezuela rounded out the top three with 380 points.

 

Medal Breakdown

The Iranian team collected a total of 14 medals, including 6 gold, 7 silver, and 1 bronze.

 

Gold Medalists: Abolfazl Zare (110 kg category) and Hamidreza Mohammadi Tanha (110+ kg category) each swept their divisions, winning three gold medals each across the Snatch, Clean & Jerk, and Total categories.

 

Silver Medalists: Farhad Gholizadeh (110 kg category) and Taha Nemati Moghaddam (110+ kg category) each secured three silver medals. Additionally, Hamidreza Zarei earned a silver medal in the Clean & Jerk of the 94 kg category.

 

Bronze Medalist: Hamidreza Zarei claimed the team’s sole bronze medal in the Total for the 94 kg category.

 

Individual Performances

94 kg: Hamidreza Zarei placed fourth in the Snatch before securing his medals. In the same weight class, Mohammad Amin Habibi finished sixth in both Snatch and Clean & Jerk, placing fifth overall.

 

88 kg: Amirmohammad Rahmati finished eighth in the Snatch and seventh in both the Clean & Jerk and Total. Mohammad Amin Davand placed 11th in the Snatch but failed to record a successful lift in the Clean & Jerk.

 

110 kg & 110+ kg: These categories were the highlights for Iran, with Zare, Mohammadi Tanha, Gholizadeh, and Nemati Moghaddam securing all 12 of the team’s gold and silver medals in these divisions.
