WANA (Jun 22) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has issued a strongly worded statement condemning what it describes as a brutal and illegal military attack by the United States on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities. The Ministry has called on the United Nations and international bodies to take immediate action against what it terms a dangerous and unprecedented violation of international law.

In its official statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry declared:

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the savage U.S. military aggression against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities—an action carried out in gross and unprecedented violation of the most fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and the rules of international law. The war-mongering and law-breaking U.S. government is held fully responsible for the extremely dangerous consequences of this grave crime.”

The Ministry further emphasized that the attack, carried out in coordination with the “genocidal Zionist regime,” represents yet another indication of Washington’s hostility toward the Iranian people:

“This act of aggression by the United States—against the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of a UN member state, conducted in criminal collaboration with the genocidal Zionist regime—clearly reveals the depths of American malice and animosity toward the peace-loving and independence-seeking Iranian people.”

Reiterating Iran’s position on national defense, the statement affirms:

“The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right to resist by all means necessary against the United States’ military aggression and the crimes committed by this rogue regime, and to defend Iran’s national security and interests.”

The Ministry noted that the U.S. attack on nuclear sites took place in the early hours of the tenth day of Israeli military aggression against Iran, thereby exposing what it calls criminal complicity between Washington and Tel Aviv:

“This military assault, occurring on the tenth day of the Zionist regime’s ongoing aggression against Iran, has made clear to all the United States’ complicity and participation in planning and executing military attacks on the Islamic Republic.”

The statement describes the attack as a blatant breach of international law, specifically citing Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter, which prohibits the use of force against the sovereignty of other states:

“The U.S. military assault not only constitutes an unprecedented and egregious violation of the UN Charter, particularly the prohibition on the use of force and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states outlined in Article 2(4), but also violates UN Security Council Resolution 2231. Moreover, it deals a severe blow to the global nuclear non-proliferation regime, and is particularly alarming given that it was carried out by a permanent member of the UN Security Council.”

Iran’s Foreign Ministry also issued a stern reminder to global institutions and leaders of their responsibilities:

“The Islamic Republic of Iran reminds the United Nations, the UN Security Council, the Secretary-General, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and other relevant international bodies of their urgent responsibility to act in the face of this criminal and illegal conduct. Continued silence in the face of this blatant aggression will place the entire world at unprecedented and far-reaching risk.”

Highlighting Iran’s historical role as a founding member of the UN, the Ministry added:

“As a founding member of the United Nations, the Islamic Republic of Iran expects the organization and each of its responsible member states to fulfill their duties at this critical moment, as the international community faces a clear act of lawlessness by the United States.”

The statement went on to urge the UN Security Council to hold an emergency session:

“We call on the UN Security Council to convene an emergency session to strongly condemn the U.S. aggression, and to hold the United States accountable for its gross violations of international norms.”

Iran also criticized the role of the IAEA and its Director General, accusing them of bias and complicity:

“The responsibility of the IAEA and its Director General, who—with clear bias in favor of belligerent parties—paved the way for this catastrophe, is now more evident than ever. We call on the IAEA Board of Governors to immediately convene and fulfill its legal obligation regarding the dangerous U.S. attack on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, all of which were under full IAEA safeguards and oversight.”

The Foreign Ministry concluded by stating that the international community must not forget the U.S. role in fueling conflict:

“The world must remember that it was the United States, during an ongoing diplomatic process, that betrayed diplomacy by supporting the aggressive and lawless acts of the genocidal Israeli regime—and now, in continuation of that betrayal, has launched a dangerous war against Iran.”

“It has now become clear to all that the United States, despite being a permanent member of the UN Security Council, adheres to no rule or moral principle and will commit any crime or breach of law to further the interests of a genocidal and occupying regime.”
