Iran’s MMA Athletes Claim 4 Gold Medals at Asian Youth Games
WANA (Oct 25) – Iranian mixed martial arts (MMA) athletes Tiam Dehpahlevan, Amir Mohammad Hatamian, Vania Fathali Pour, and Amir Mahdi Vazifeh secured gold medals at the Asian Youth Games.
Tiam Dehpahlevan, representing Iran in the 60kg women’s category, faced Mongolia’s Erdene Bat in the final on Saturday at 10:20 a.m. (Bahrain time). Dehpahlevan won in two rounds, earning Iran’s first-ever gold medal in women’s MMA at the youth games.
In the 60kg men’s category, Amir Mohammad Hatamian defeated Ratcliff of the Philippines in the final after two rounds, claiming gold for Iran.
Vania Fathali Pour won the gold medal in the 55-kilogram MMA category at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain by defeating Takada from Japan.
Iliya Vahedi, representing Iran in the boys’ 70-kilogram MMA category, reached the final against Omarjani from Tajikistan. After a two-round match, he initially defeated his opponent to win the gold medal. However, following a protest by the Tajik representative and a review by the referees, the medal was changed, and Vahedi was awarded the silver medal.
Amir Mahdi Vazifeh, the representative in the boys’ 80-kilogram MMA category, faced his Kazakh opponent in the final match. After finishing the first two rounds with equal scores, he submitted to his rival in the third round, securing victory in the match and winning the gold medal.
The previous day, Kamand Karamzad, competing in the 50-kilogram traditional MMA style, succeeded in winning a bronze medal at the Asian Youth Championships in Bahrain by defeating strong opponents.
On the third day of the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, Iranian athletes are competing in 10 sports disciplines, including golf, taekwondo, futsal, 3×3 basketball, Muay Thai, mixed martial arts, e-sports, beach volleyball, athletics, and boxing.
