Iranian players have been wearing lapel pins featuring the hashtag #168 on their official team suits. The campaign honors 168 Iranian schoolgirls killed in past events attributed to U.S. actions, utilizing the tournament’s global stage to highlight historical grievances against the host nation.

 

“Iran shook up the American World Cup with a single hashtag,” remarked Turkish journalist Selçuk Beylerbeyi on Friday, praising the team’s initiative to raise international awareness.
