WANA (Oct 22) – Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad departed for Qatar on Tuesday evening (October 21) to attend the 27th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), scheduled for Thursday, October 23, in Doha.

According to the Oil Ministry, this will be the seventh time Qatar hosts the GECF Ministerial Meeting, with the last session held there in 2016.

The key agenda items for the 27th Ministerial Meeting include coordination among member states in response to global policies that could pose challenges or restrictions to the development of the gas industry and its markets.

The ministers will also decide on organizational matters, including the election of the next Secretary-General and preparations for the 8th GECF Summit of Heads of State and Government, to be held in Moscow.

Ahead of the main meeting, an extraordinary session of the GECF Executive Board will convene on Wednesday, October 22, in Qatar to review the agenda, resolutions, and final statement of the Ministerial Meeting.

The GECF Ministerial Meeting, the forum’s highest decision-making body, is held annually to review global and regional gas market developments and make decisions on the organization’s policies and operations. The 26th Ministerial Meeting was hosted by Tehran on December 8, 2024.
