Iran’s Parliament Launches Emergency Plan for Complete Withdrawal from the NPT
WANA (Aug 28) – Following the announcement by three European countries to trigger the “snapback mechanism,” Hossein-Ali Haji-Deligani, Deputy Chairman of the Article 90 Committee of Iran’s Parliament, announced the drafting and submission of an emergency bill for Iran’s full withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Haji-Deligani emphasized that the bill will be uploaded to the parliamentary system tomorrow and will then be reviewed in an open session of Parliament. He added: “This move is the most minimal response by Parliament to the recent action of the European countries, and further regret-inducing measures are also on the agenda.”
Pointing to the futility of negotiations with Western countries, the lawmaker said: “Our people clearly know that talks with these countries have brought nothing but more pressure. Therefore, all dialogue must be suspended until these countries abandon their double standards.”
According to him, the activation of the snapback mechanism essentially reinstates previous sanctions and brings nothing new for Iran. However, he stressed that Parliament’s response will be “decisive and deterrent.”
