WANA (Aug 03) – Iran’s population has officially surpassed 87 million and is projected to reach 88 million within the next two years, according to figures released by the Statistical Center of Iran (SCI).

 

Data published by the SCI indicates a steady upward demographic trend between the Iranian calendar years 1396 and 1407 (2017–2028). At the time of the report’s release, the country’s population was estimated at 87,000,777.

 

Projected Growth and Demographics

According to the center’s population forecasts, Iran’s population will reach approximately 88.19 million by 1407 (2028)—an increase of roughly 7 million people compared to the 81.05 million recorded in 1396 (2017).

 

Year-by-year estimates provided by the SCI highlight the following progression:

The projections indicate that population growth will primarily occur in urban centers. The urban population is expected to expand from 60.30 million in 2017 to 68.99 million by 2028.

 

Conversely, the population in rural and non-settled areas is projected to decline from 20.75 million to 19.20 million over the same period, reflecting ongoing nationwide urbanization trends.

 

Additionally, the statistics show that the male population will slightly outnumber the female population across all projected years.
