Iran’s Red Line in Negotiations: Enrichment Will Not Be Halted
WANA ( Jul 14) – Ali Akbar Velayati, Senior Advisor to the Supreme Leader on International Affairs, emphasized on Monday, July 14, 2025, that Iran opposes any negotiations conditioned on halting its nuclear enrichment activities. His remarks came during a meeting with Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan’s Interior Minister, in Tehran.
“We have no objection to negotiations that take place without preconditions and within the framework of the Islamic Republic’s red lines,” Velayati stated. “However, if negotiations are tied to the suspension of uranium enrichment, such talks will certainly not take place.” He stressed that enrichment is one of Iran’s red lines and that any conditions imposed in this regard are unacceptable.
In another part of his remarks, Velayati described Iran-Pakistan relations as “deep, longstanding, and brotherly,” and called for the strengthening and expansion of bilateral cooperation. During the meeting, the Pakistani minister delivered messages from Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Chief of Army Staff to the Supreme Leader of Iran.
Turning to regional developments, Velayati condemned the actions of the Israeli regime in Gaza and U.S. support for those actions, urging unity among Muslim nations in the face of such aggression.
He also expressed concern over the close ties between Pakistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan, criticizing certain actions by the Baku government that, in his words, “run counter to the views of the Islamic world.” He stated: “Mediating between Golan and the Zionist regime, and exporting oil to Israel at the height of that regime’s crimes against the oppressed Palestinian people, are matters that must be questioned.”
The Pakistani interior minister, for his part, condemned Israeli and American attacks on Iranian soil and expressed Islamabad’s support for Tehran’s positions.
It is worth noting that Minister Naqvi arrived in Tehran the previous day, welcomed by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. During the visit, the two sides discussed border issues, security cooperation, and facilitating pilgrimage travel from Pakistan to Iran.
In his meeting with Velayati, the Pakistani minister delivered messages from Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Army Chief to the Supreme Leader of Iran.
