WANA (Jul 16) – The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations has addressed the UN Security Council in a letter responding to what he described as “baseless and false allegations” made by the United States regarding Iran’s role in Yemen and the Red Sea. He stressed that Iran remains fully committed to all of its international obligations and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and continues to support a peaceful, inclusive, and Yemeni-led political process.

Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s Ambassador to the UN, wrote on Wednesday (local time) to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council:

“It is deeply regrettable that the United States is misusing the platform of the Security Council to deflect attention from its own destabilizing actions, including its military involvement in Yemen and its support for the Israeli regime’s aggressions in Yemen and across the region.”

Below is the full text of the letter:

In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

I categorically reject the unfounded allegations made against the Islamic Republic of Iran by the representative of the United States during the Security Council meetings held on 9 July 2025 (Meeting No. 99054) and 15 July 2025 (Meeting No. 99058), under the agenda items “The Situation in the Middle East” and “Maintenance of International Peace and Security,” respectively.

The claim that Iran is violating Security Council Resolution 2216 (2015) is completely baseless, unsubstantiated, and devoid of any credible evidence. The Islamic Republic of Iran remains committed to all of its international obligations and relevant Security Council resolutions, and continues to support a peaceful, inclusive, and Yemeni-led political process.

It is deeply regrettable that the United States is misusing the Security Council platform to divert attention from its own destabilizing actions, including military interference in Yemen and support for the Israeli regime’s aggressions in Yemen and across the region.

For nearly a decade, the people of Yemen have suffered the consequences of a devastating war and an unlawful blockade imposed by a coalition backed by the United States—a situation that has created one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. These violations of international humanitarian law continue with full impunity.

The Security Council must not allow the U.S. disinformation campaign to obscure the ongoing atrocities committed by the Israeli regime in Gaza and across the region, nor the root causes of the current situation in the Red Sea. Achieving lasting peace in the region requires addressing the underlying sources of instability—chief among them, the illegal occupation, continued aggression, and systematic violations of international law and Security Council resolutions by the Israeli regime.

I would be grateful if this letter could be circulated as an official document of the Security Council.

Please accept the assurances of my highest consideration.

Amir Saeid Iravani

Ambassador and Permanent Representative

of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations
