WANA (Apr 07) – In a formal letter to the United Nations, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative, Amir Saeid Iravani, has condemned attacks on Iranian universities, describing them as a systematic policy of aggression that threatens international peace and security.

The letter, addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the President of the Security Council on Monday, detailed strikes against major academic institutions and called for immediate international accountability for the United States and the Israeli regime.

Strikes on Sharif and Shahid Beheshti Universities

Iravani reported that in the early hours of April 6, 2026, Sharif University of Technology was attacked by Israeli and U.S. forces. According to the envoy, the “illegal attack” caused severe damage to:

  • The Faculty of Civil Engineering
  • The Department of Philosophy of Science
  • The Nano and Environment Research Institutes
  • The Convergent Research Building
  • The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and other facilities.

The Ambassador added that this “heinous act” follows a previous war crime committed on April 3, 2026, when parts of Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran, including the Laser and Plasma Research Institute, were heavily damaged.

Excerpts from the Official Letter

In the correspondence, Iravani characterized the deliberate targeting of scientific institutions as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and a prime example of war crimes.

“Such barbarism, which is unprecedented in contemporary history, is considered part of a broad and systematic policy openly acknowledged by the President of the United States and the criminal Prime Minister of the rogue Israeli regime,” the letter stated.

The envoy further argued that these actions constitute “state terrorism” and “indiscriminate targeting of civilian objects.”

Demands for UN Action

  1. The Islamic Republic of Iran officially requested that the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council:
  2. Decisively condemn these acts as war crimes and state terrorism against civilian infrastructure.
  3. Take immediate and tangible measures to halt the ongoing criminal and illegal acts by the United States and the Israeli regime.
  4. Ensure full accountability for all individuals responsible for pursuing policies that result in war crimes against Iranian civilians and infrastructure.

The letter concluded with a request for the document to be registered as an official document of the Security Council and distributed among its members.
